      Compassion Fatigue

Those who seek careers in animal welfare and veterinary medicine often do so out of love for animals and desire to contribute to their health and wellbeing. Exposure to the sad and bad aspects of animal welfare and veterinary medicine can leave providers in a state of burnout or compassion fatigue, even vicarious trauma. Those in these fields, like the world of human welfare and healthcare, can also be second victims. This seminar will focus on assisting those in the animal welfare and veterinary medicine industry to identify and establish ways to combat compassion fatigue and manage vicarious trauma and the second victim phenomenon. Participants can complete the Professional Quality of Life Scale to identify targeted areas of satisfaction and fatigue. The workshop teaches practical skills and approaches to work in these demanding careers.
